Our Lady of the Rosary’s Feast is celebrated on October 7th. Hence, the month of October each year is dedicated to the most Holy Rosary. One of the best ways of celebrating this month is committing to saying the rosary everyday with our kids.
Here are some ideas for celebrating the Feast of Our Lady of Rosary:
Our Lady of Rosary Craft:
Make a Rosary with kids.
Rosaries can be made easily with just a string and some beads. However for those of you who find the idea a bit overwhelming here’s a guide.
We on the feast of St. Therese of Lisieux had made her sacrifice beads. This can be used as a small pocket rosary since it has 10 beads which my kids use to say their rosary
Draw a Rosary
It is a simple activity you can do with kids who like drawing and colouring.
Crown of Roses craft
Rosary means crown of roses. See pictures for how we made the crown. There are so many creative ways to make her a crown of roses. What can you think of?
Rosary beads.
I used a craft method to introduce the Rosary beads, to teach my children which beads are for Our Father, which are for Hail Mary and Holy Mary and so on… How to start and how to end which bead is for which prayer etc. for this I used flat back beads (pearls) of different colours, you could use buttons, pom pom or older children could even try paper quilling or paper beads.
Family prayer during Our Lady of Rosary month
Use the Rosary to follow along.
Once they knew which bead is for which prayer and could hold the rosary in their hands and count I gave it to them (So keep their own Rosary ready for them when you sit as a family to pray the Holy rosary).
Let the children lead the prayers.
This took me some time but is a great encouragement to them. We still let them lead and we repeat or follow. It builds into a habit.
Most importantly, let them see you pray the rosary. Your love for it will inspire a love in them too. What are you doing this month to teach your child about the Holy Rosary?
Edible Rosaries
After all, no celebration or feast is complete without food. So for snack we made rosary with cereals. You can try with anything available in your pantry like chocolate chips, raisins, MnM’s. Your creativity is the limit
Since these activities can be spread out throughout the month or you can choose to do any one of them, whatever suits you and your family. The main intention is to allow our kids to love the Rosary and Mother Mary. As St. Padre Pio said, “Love the Madonna and pray the Rosary, for her Rosary is the weapon against the evils of the world today.”
Introduce Our Lady of Rosary at an early age.
For younger children, talk to them about Mary. Hence, share the story of Fatima and how Mary appeared to 3 little children.
I used this mini booklet. I told my children the story while they coloured the pages and then told me the story. We even made the spinning sun.
Marian Consecration during Our Lady Of Rosary Feast
For those of you who are interested this is like a contemplative retreat. Also its best to do it with someone, try getting your spouse or group of like minded friends together. Total Consecration to Jesus through Mary (Marian consecration) truly is “the surest, easiest, shortest, and the most perfect means” to becoming a saint.
HOW the Retreat works
Read and ponder on the teachings of the 4 Marian Giants (St Louis de Montfort, St. Maximillian Kolbe, St. Mother Teresa and St. John Paul 2) and how they lived out their consecration to Jesus through Mary. Pondering and reflection throughout the day is something we can do no matter how busy we are. Also this heart-pondering attitude is specifically Marian. Furthermore all the reflections are there given day wise in the book The 33 days to Morning Glory.
Obviously, I loved doing the Marian Consecration.
It a privilege to know that Mamma Mary will be even closer to me than before.
What consolation than she will direct my way to Heaven.
And what joy that she will personally be involved in my life and those of my dear ones.
Happy feast of Our Lady of the Most Holy Rosary.
We even celebrated with a crown of cream puffs singing Ave Maria and my gift to Mary, was my very first handcrafted Mary peg doll.
We have many amazing feasts and activities prepared for this month. If you still haven’t visited these then please have a look and make sure to have lots of fun with your little ones.
