St. Rose of Lima Feast
St. Rose of Lima is the patron saint of Peru and all of South America. In August our church celebrates some great and inspiring saints. It was exciting and challenging to decide which saint to celebrate this month. Finally I decided to go with St. Rose of Lima, my patron Saint. The Catholic church celebrates her feast day on 23rd August. She was born in Peru and is the first person born in the Americas to be canonized.
Let me share some things you can do with your kids on the feast day of St. Rose of Lima.
St. Rose of Lima’s life story
You can read the story of Saint Rose of Lima from any saints book you have or you can get a fun fact sheet about her from Catholic Online.
Activity time
Pick up some roses from your garden or buy a bouquet from the flower shop and let your children arrange it in a vase on your prayer table or dining table.
St. Rose of Lima is also the patron saint of embroiderers, gardeners, and florists. So you can plant something in your garden or pot with your kids.
Craft Time
You can get a St. Rose of Lima paper Doll by Paper Dali. Print, colour it and tape it to a craft stick.
St. Rose of Lima meal plan
For food if you like baking you can bake a cake or a cupcake and decorate it with roses made out of apple slices or if you prefer something more simpler you can make a sandwich and garnish with a tomato rose. I found a YouTube video on how to make a tomato rose and it didn’t even take me a minute. It’s that simple and looks pretty too you can serve this with any rosy juice. My hubby bought some raspberry lemonade so I plan to serve it to them. Watermelon juice is another option which you can make at home
I hope you have fun celebrating the feast and the liturgical year at home with your kids. Also remember that the month of August is dedicated to the Immaculate Heart of Mary in case you still haven’t visited our page for some activity and craft ideas do so soon.
