Introduce Scripture to Kids, Ages 3-7
Have you ever wondered how to introduce Scripture to little ones?
In this series we will cover some Age-wise suggestions.
3-7 years old (Infant and Toddler)
- Play Act: Bring out the shawls and dress up like Queen Esther, Hide under a blanket and become Daniel in the den with the lions. Make a sling and be a David with Goliath, climb the staircase and be Lazarus on a tree. Have lots of fun along the way and get these Bible stories imprinted in their little minds.
- Puppets: Stick puppets, finger puppets, hand puppets, peg dolls or just plain toy characters can be used to bring Bible characters to life.
- Craft: Kids love art. Colors, paper, glue, kid-safe scissors and you’re set. Make Jesus’ tomb, finger paint Jonah’s whale, make a collage cross. There’s no end to the crafts and activities you can do. What’s more? You can add in some number/alphabet and word games into it. Like, count the fish Peter caught or find the names of the Apostles by using an Alphabet code.
- Food based activities: Bake a cake for Mother Mary’s birthday, roll a Lilly sandwich for St. Joseph or bake loaves of bread. Food is great for fellowship and to learn so much from scripture
- Story related: Story sequencing, Story narration, Draw the scene and asking questions are all simple ways to help children understand scripture.
- Scripture learning: Learning and reciting Scripture verses during prayer and for specific situations is an amazing way to inscribe God’s words in kids hearts and minds.
- Make it relatable to daily events: I told my toddler about Matthew 10:31, “So don’t be afraid; you are worth more than many sparrows.” And I would remind him of it every time we saw a sparrow. Now, he reminds me.
Go ahead try some out and let us know! You don’t have to do more but definitely do what appeals to you and what you know your kid will surely enjoy.
