Lent ideas for families with kids

Lent is here.

A time of preparation, a time of waiting, a time of surrender.

How do we help kids understand this time, instead of jumping to Easter festivities and fun?

Here are some simple things we do at home:

Crown of thorns

The most common and meaningful way to to prepare for lent is this.

We have repurposed our Advent wreath, which was originally a bird’s nest, to make the crown with toothpick thorns.

Each day we will try to help ease Jesus’ pain a little by all the good things we can offer.

Stations of the cross is another beautiful prayer during Lent. My 4 year old joined me last year and he wants to do it this year. We usually just pick up something off YouTube but here’s one my son really enjoys:

 

I have some ideas cooking in my head to make the stations more engaging for my boys, so I’ll share them soon
