St. George: Simple ideas to celebrate

What kid doesn’t love dragons? On April 23 we will celebrate the patron saint of England, St. George. According to tradition, he was a Roman soldier in the Roman Army, who is often depicted as killing a dragon as a symbol of faith triumphing over evil. 

To celebrate St. George, make cupcakes and put them together to create a dragon! Practice “defeating” the dragon by eating them together as a family. It’s an easy activity that can be done with kids of all ages. 

We used almonds for the nose, Cashew nut halves for the teeth, candy eyes and edible glitter paint over the body.

As you are making the cupcakes, talk to your kids about how faith triumphs over evil in today’s world. Talk about some of the “dragons” in real life and how we, as Catholics, can overcome and defeat those things!
