St. Teresa of Avila
On 15th October, we celebrate the Feast of St. Teresa of Avila.
Reading and learning more about this saint has opened my eyes! Saints are people just like you and me. They go through the same temptations and struggles that we face. But they never give up! They love Jesus above all else and love him endlessly. We need not struggle and strive to make big sacrifices and climb high mountains to reach Jesus.
He is with us…all the time. He lives in us. Inside our Interior Castle.
Here are some ideas to celebrate St. Teresa’s feast:
Make your own Interior Castle:
Colour and make your own castle in your heart and place Jesus inside the castle. Check out the pictures and make your inner castle!
Make a bookmark
After all, an avid reader like St Teresa could be remembered by making a bookmark.
What creative ways can you design yours?
Be Cheerful like St. Teresa of Avila
St. Teresa used to say “God save us from gloomy saints!” A good reminder to lose that serious face and put on our cheerful smile in the midst of it all. A simple stick figure (check pictures) to remind us and our kids of this, makes for a fun activity.
Make St. Teresa’s ornament:
St. Teresa’s ornament is a heart, a flaming arrow and a dove, which symbolises the Holy Spirit.
Spend time singing like St. Teresa of Avila:
St. Teresa loved to sing for the nuns at the convent using a tambourine. Download this free colouring sheet with a tambourine that has St Teresa’s prayer.
Learn and pray St. Teresa’s favourite prayer
The ‘Our Father’ was St. Teresa’s favourite prayer. A good time to teach your child to pray it.
While doing these simple things to help our children, like Saint Teresa of Avila, in our prayer, work, travel, and everyday lives, we can explore within and find our way to God.
Happy Feast of St. Teresa of Avila!!!
With a heart inflamed with love, St. Teresa of Avila taught people one of the most powerful lessons – to look for God within themselves; To pray with their own words and to seek to hear God’s voice – not outside themselves, but in their own Interior, which she called, the ‘Interior Castle.’
I hope you have a blessed time celebrating this awesome saint with your little ones.
We have many amazing feasts and activities prepared for the month of October. Don’t delay any further visit and make sure to have lots of fun with your little ones.
