St. Teresa of Calcutta
St. Teresa of Calcutta, whom we all know and call Mother Teresa, celebrates her feast on September 5th. She is celebrated not just by us Catholics but by people across the world for the amazing person she was and for all her good deeds and accomplishments.
Let us look at some ways we can celebrate the feast of St. Teresa of Calcutta with our kids.
1. Share St. Teresa of Calcutta’s story –
We should always start by telling our kids about the life of the saint we are celebrating. All of us have heard some or the other story of Mother Teresa. Share those with our kids or we can read about the saint from a saint book. There are also animated videos on the life of Mother Teresa.
2. Visit/donate to MC home-
We can talk to our kids about what the Missionaries of Charities do and visit one of their homes. Maybe ask them to donate some toys or clothes. If that is not possible maybe we know someone whom we can help in some way… ask your kids what they are willing to give to someone in need.
3. St. Teresa of Calcutta’s Colouring pages-
To Look To Him And Be Radiant, has some amazing Mother Teresa quote colouring pages.
4. Plan a Feast-
We can feast with our kids on every feast day and for the feast of Mother Teresa we don’t have to be very creative… cook any Indian dish like flatbread (naan) with some chicken or rice and chicken… a tea party with some simple cupcakes with white frosting and blue sprinklers depicting the colours of Mother Teresa is also an option.
5. Craft-
I did a paper plate craft with my kid which I have posted in the pictures. You can try doing that with kids too.
Fridge magnet
We also made a handmade fridge magnet. This magnet is going along with some gifts to the needy, which is our activity while we learn about this Saint.
