Should you do the Consecration to St. Joseph?
Has it crossed your mind that the Holy Family together experienced every threat and situation mankind ever possibly could. A threat to the babe’s life, to fleeing and living like refugees, to not have a stable roof on your head, struggling to earn a living, relocating, losing a spouse, losing a son, losing a friend, betrayed, ridiculed, mocked, stripped off clothes, go through intense suffering of body and mind, sentenced to death and many ‘whys’ unanswered.
Of all the three, the Patron of the Universal Church is hardly mentioned in the gospels. Much greater is his silence. If God took such care in choosing the mother of His Son, why would He not have chosen the perfect father for him on earth?
I’ve wanted to ask him: How did he relate to Mary as a husband? What would it have felt like to bring up God Himself. To live with a God who needed to be taken care, nourished and provided for. What did it feel to be directed in his dreams? And take such drastic action immediately? To be the Head of the most Holy Family?
I still haven’t found answers to any of my questions but reflecting on the litany of St. Joseph for the past 33 days has only left me thirsting for more. Without saying a word, this silent man speaks volumes.
God the Father is the image of a perfect father, but in Joseph I see his tangible model and likeness. Full of courage, patience and a burning desire to always do God’s will. From him I can learn perfect obedience, even when it makes no sense.
So glad to bask in his protection and guidance and see him be known and loved.
What consolation that saints have admired him for centuries and to learn from the richness of their meditations. Everyday unwraps a new mystery and creates an even greater wonder. Do you want to see beyond the depictions of him as an old man? And understand why the Demons are terrified of him?
