Christ the King Feast
The last Sunday of the liturgical year culminates with Christ the King feast.
Here’s a crown for Jesus, and a staff lovingly made by my son who also decided to make his small heart and Jesus’ big heart to offer Him today coz it will make Jesus happy.
Lesson for me – I’m sure God doesn’t mind his crooked lines and colours gone outside coz he made it with so much joy and so even my most imperfect offering would bring a smile to Jesus and that is enough.
Oh, and if you’re wondering about the smiley ball… my son decided that would be a good gift for Jesus too.
Is there anything we can give Him that He hasn’t given us first?
It is a beautiful feast where we recognize that Jesus is not just the King of the universe but of our lives too. For our kids this feast may seem a bit odd since the definition of power and kingship that they see in the world today is way different from what Jesus showed through His life.
Let’s look at some ways we can make the Feast of Christ the King relatable and interesting for our kids.
1. Talk and discuss:
Go through the readings of that Sunday with the kids. Ask questions about who a king is and how Jesus is a king different from all worldly kings. Also do convey the message that though we give special attention to Christ’s Kingship today He is our King all the days of the year. You can discuss these points after watching this video.
2. Make a crown:
Have any image of Jesus printed out or what you have at home. Let the kids make a crown and tape it on the image. They can even make paper crowns and write Jesus is king on it.
3. Food:
A special feast always calls for special party. Its nice to have tea parties with kids to celebrate these special days of our Liturgical calendar. We need not prepare anything elaborate. Just some fruits arranged in heart shaped (depicting Jesus is King of our hearts) or bread slices cut in shape of crowns. Those of you who want to make it elaborate try some crown shaped cakes or cookies. Another idea would be to make a meal fit for a king
