St. John Paul II
October 22nd is the feast day of one of my favourite saints (yes I have many) but he is special because I grew up seeing him, listening about him and praying for him. I also saw him when he visited Delhi in 1999…? Any guesses… YES…it is St. John Paul II or as many others call him St. John Paul the Great or St. JP2.
Check out below how you can make the feast day of St. JP2 special for kids.
Read the Story/ watch a video on the life of St. John Paul II
It is always good to start by familiarizing our kids with the story of the saint we are going to celebrate. We can either read them a story or watch a video with them about St. John Paul II. We started the day reading about St. JP 2.
Feasting on St. John Paul II favourites
Since St. JP2 is Polish it would great if we can try some Polish cuisine with our family. I found an easy recipe for Potato pancakes which looks delicious too Do give it a try. We feasted on some yummy Polish potato pancakes.
As a matter of fact if someone here likes baking, there is a Polish cake which is named after St. JP2 because it was his favourite dessert Here is the recipe
Activities:
Below are some activities we can do with our kids on this feast day.
a. Outdoor activities
St. JP2 loved outdoor activities like hiking, skiing, kayaking and so on. A nature walk with kids would be a good way to show them the love St. JP2 had for the outdoors
The weather was amazing today so we were able to go for a walk around our community…we also discussed how St. JP 2 loved outdoors.
We walked around saying the Divine Mercy Chaplet… since he was the one who instituted Divine Mercy Sunday
b. Pray
Spending time in pray with our family and children is always beautiful. Especially, pray the luminous mysteries of the rosary which was started by St. JP2. Since he was the one who instituted Divine Mercy Sunday you could try that too
c. Dance
Dance and watch this video of St. JP2 It is autotuned but it is fun to watch and shows his love for all We did some dancing and the kids had a ball making their own moves.
4. Crafts:
We tried making a paper craft of St. JP2. I have attached a picture for your reference.
Likewise, if your kids like drawing they can draw St. JP2 on their own following the easy how to draw video link.
Hope you have a wonderful feast celebration.
I am looking forward to the ALLHALLOWTIDE celebration… So excited to dress up my little ones as saints. Time to wear our creative hats
God bless…Happy feast and have fun
